Do you know those moments where everything is perfectly still,
that’s right, when you don’t feel like going out, but you don’t feel like going to sleep either;
you’re sitting in the living room with your significant other, watching Netflix and thinking,
what da fuck is going on. Pleased to meet you, we are the Black Box,
our plan is to take over that stillness,
making it
the coolest thing you’re ever
going to do in your lifetime
Gavriel and Danielle, two freelance industrial designers
who just do what they love most.
Not as in “we’re so blessed”; as in – fuck it,
everything is so accessible and yet so boring.
We want to be surprising, novel; we want people to experience something different, unique, that would really leave its mark.
We want to get people going not knowing what the next step is going to be, not knowing what they’re about to go through, and when they finally do find out, we want them to get excited about it.
That’s the word – to get people excited.
Because everything is so predictable, always.
We want to bring people closer in other, cool, fun ways.
We offer concept boxes that create a crazy, unique experience.
The main purpose here is to surprise people, engage them, and bring them closer to one another.
All while emphasizing creativity, fun, and coolness.
Remember wh en COVID hit?
Way back in early 2020.
It’s actually a wild story, so listen up 🙂
It all started when we matched on some dating app. We went on a couple of dates, and it was awesome. Gavriel took me to a bar and ordered 4 shots.
Each. To start. That’s when I realized this guy wasn’t all there, which was perfect because together, we might be 60% normal at best.
We found out we had a ton in common, , like our love for creating and inventing stuff.
We called ourselves Pinky and the Brain, even before we planned to take over the world.
And then, Bam. It happened. COVID. Lockdown.
Me, a bartender and designer with a bright future, and Gavriel, a furniture designer with an event production background, found ourselves stuck at home, just staring into space.
We sat there, thinking—now what?
We tossed around ideas like setting up bars on rooftops, suspended between buildings. We wanted to find a way to meet the needs of the masses.
We looked for ways to beat people’s sudden boredom,
make them laugh, and keep them busy with something that could bring them closer and lift their spirits during such crazy times. We thought about you. Sitting in the living room, just like we were. One of the ideas we tossed around was for people stuck celebrating their birthdays at home. Total bummer, right? No surprise visits from friends or family. So, we decided to make a box just for those folks.
– a birthday kit for the solo birthday boy or girl.
We posted a description of our idea, threw in some pics to show the vibe we were going for, and called it a night.
We woke up to a flood of messages, questions, and hundreds of orders for a product that was just an idea.
Without thinking twice, we dived headfirst into a new project.
Gavriel hit the road to meet suppliers, I took orders and designed flash cards, and we both hustled to put our product together on the fly.
Our living room, once a place for dreams, turned into a box factory overnight.
After three months of dating and working together, we decided to stick as business partners.
We kept cranking out more products aimed at bringing people closer.
Next came our Black Box and the rest is history.
